Captain Mark
Two-time national champ
Capt. Mark Ryan has a whopping 28 years of sailing experience. He proved his mastery of the sport in 2010 upon winning the Lido Nationals, a title he later reclaimed in 2014. Capt. Ryan has also participated in two Ensenada races and one Transpacific Yacht race which is a 2,500-mile voyage with a finish line in Oahu. Captain Ryan's charter guests enjoy his passion and knowledge of sailing. When on land, Mark ties up his laces for regular 5k runs and teaches history to middle schoolers.
CAPTAIN Max
Founder of Jolly Sailing
Captain Max Jolly launched Jolly Sailing after serving as the director of Leeway Sailing Center for ten years. Max races Lido 14's and Catalina 37' sailboats regularly and was a crew member on the first-place vessel, a Santa Cruz 70', in the Newport to Ensenada race in 2015. Max earned both his Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Leisure and Recreation Studies and has held his USCG Captain's license for a decade. On the boat, Capt. Jolly takes pride in the hospitality he provides to guests. Passengers have repeatedly shared that they walk away from the charter truly feeling as though Max is "their friend with a boat"! (See our Yelp reviews for support!) When Max is not sailing, he can be found surfing, snowboarding, skateboarding, and traveling abroad.
Kayla Jolly
The BRAInS
Kayla met Max upon taking sailing classes back in 2010. He made her a jolly gal and now together they run Jolly Sailing. Kayla has 8 years of hospitality experience and has a Master of Business degree from California State University, Long Beach. Kayla tackles the accounting, marketing, strategy, and administrative components of the charter boat company. Having done a fair amount of traveling over the years, and a passion for mitigating climate change, she is proud that the business fits under the eco-tourism umbrella. Our boat rentals are an exciting AND environmentally friendly option for those visiting Long Beach. When she's not in her office, you can find her playing beach volleyball, riding her Yamaha TW, or walking her fur baby, Bobbie.

CERTIFIED
GREEN BUSINESS
Jolly Sailing uses eco and marine-friendly cleaning products. We purchase recycled paper and TP and buy offsets for the small amount of fuel we use per year to get the vessel in and out of the downtown Long Beach marina.
If you're a traveler who values eco-tourism or a local Southern Californian that appreciates environmentally conscientious businesses, we would love your support
